The Victorian
Women's Trust is an independent non-profit organisation dedicated
to promoting the status of women.
It is a wonderful
team of people - passionate about their work, fully on top of issues
affecting women and yet lots of fun to work with.
The project
came about through Consonant offering to do some work on the website
for the Purple Sage Project - one of the initiatives that the VWT
is responsible for.
The VWT were
feeling frustrated at knowing the potential of the Internet but
not knowing what they needed to do to derive the full potential
from their site. Consonant
has responded with re-engineering
the VWT website to align the site's content, functionality and layout
with the organisation's business objectives.
This involves
explaining some Internet concepts along the way, and providing additional
functionality, tools and training that will fully support the VWT's
activities and empower them to keep their own site updated in the
future.
Tasks include:
- assisting the VWT to determine their business objectives,
- identifying functionality and content to support these business
objectives,
- reviewing
the existing site and team skills,
- analysing any gap between what's currently there and what's required
- preparing a plan for how to get to where they want to be,
- reviewing all hard copy material to identify additional content,
with recommendations on where it should reside within the site,
- re-building the site so that it doesn't use frames,
- sourcing the tools required for VWT to maintain their own site,
- training staff in these products and the principles of website
creation and maintenance, and
- helping the VWT to develop a site maintenance strategy, addressing
issues such as relative responsibilities, the frequency of updating,
archiving, what can be automated, managing email, etc.
